The Full Story
From a very young age, I was captivated by the inner workings of the piano. I remember sitting quietly as our piano tuner worked on our small spinet piano, completely fascinated by the tools, sounds, and precision involved in the process. I began asking questions, eager to understand more about how the piano worked and what it took to make it sound beautiful.
When I was around 10 years old, my dad brought home an old piano just for me to experiment with. It became my hands-on classroom, and I spent countless hours exploring its mechanisms and learning how each adjustment affected the sound. That early curiosity quickly grew into a passion.

At age 14, during a family vacation, we visited a longtime friend of my mother's — a professional piano tuner. Seeing my interest, she graciously invited me to spend the summer with her to learn the craft. I eagerly accepted, and that summer turned out to be a turning point in my life. I immersed myself in tuning techniques, learned the basics of piano repair, and began to develop the skills that would shape my future.

Not long after, I began practicing regularly and eventually started working with a small piano store in Orlando. My reputation grew, and I later joined a larger piano store in the area. It was there that I met Radek, who had come in looking for work. We immediately clicked, and when that store eventually closed, we decided to team up and start what would become Mark’s Piano Works.

Our business steadily grew, and before long, the demand for our services outpaced my ability to keep up with the technical work and office responsibilities. That’s when Gail joined the team, stepping in to manage the administrative side of the business so I could focus fully on tuning and repairs.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with some truly talented individuals. I provided tuning and technical services for Herb at his store in Ormond Beach for many years and continued to do so when he later managed a piano store in Sanford. Our shop expanded, our team grew, and so did our dedication to providing the highest quality piano services to our clients.

Today, I’m proud of how far we’ve come — from a young boy fascinated by the sound of tuning pins to a full-service piano business with decades of experience. At Mark’s Piano Works, every piano tells a story, and we’re honored to be a part of keeping that story alive.
